The Tempo 9

July 6th, 2017

Product review.

The latest addition in the adidas running shoe line and to my expanding wardrobe, the adizero tempo 9 has arrived just in time for me. Having found my pace increasing, this shoe fits perfectly for me as my training transitions into a speed focus period.

So what do you get with the tempo 9? The shoe is available in two colours, a Noble Ink/Energy Pink /Mystery Ruby and seen here in Grey Two/Core Black/Solar Yellow.

Again, like the previous adidas shoes i’ve reviewed, the tempo 9  features  BOOST cushioning.

The dual density boost cushioning gives the runner a smooth, responsive ride, with Energised Stability. The upper features an Air Mesh finish for maximum breathability, with adizero webbing, which has been inspired by Japanese origami for enhanced forefoot support. Staying with the upper, the heel has a reflective marker and does have enough of a heel cup to give a comfortable fit.

The adizero log has been embossed in various areas of the upper, even on the end of the laces, this gives the tempo 9 a real classy look, subtle and restrained. This shoe is really a good looking shoe in the flesh.

And onto the sole of the matter; The TORSION SYSTEM between the heel and forefoot in the sole gives just the right amount of support, suiting the NEUTRAL runner. Finishing the outsole, adidas have used the Continental Rubber, as previously used on the supanova/supanova ST, featuring STRETCHWEB which flexes underfoot giving the runner an energised ride. The rubber itself, offers extraordinary traction in wet and dry conditions. The adizero tempo 9 features a 10mm drop and weighs a very nice 266g (size 8.5 UK).

To round up, I’m 25 miles into the adidas adizero tempo 9 and it’s early days.  My initial few miles in the shoe felt great straight from the box, a steady 3 miler, then followed by a faster run. I then followed up with a mixed run of slow, easy/moderate, slow. Initially, I was confused as to how I was to use the shoe. And,  after discussion with Keith from The Lincolnshire Runner, I now know that any runs that I do that are sub 7:00 minute mile, or incorporate a large chunk of that pace, then this is the shoe to be in. This was backed up by a PB at a local 5K series race, where my average mile pace was 6:43 minute miles!  Whereas, the adidas supanova ST (reviewed previously), suits my runs consisting of 7:00 minute miles and beyond.

The tempo 9 fits very comfortably and is the lightest #threestripes that I have in my armoury to date.  I look forward very positively to see where the adidas adizero tempo 9 takes me.
